Twinkie Pics – Weeks Fifteen through Eighteen
During which the exersaucers are introduced.

Maya and Tristan enjoyed their second and third attempts at solid food. Tristan was more comfortable with the spoon and was more patient with the process. Most of the rice ended up under his neck, though. Maya aced it like a pro– a really hungry pro.
Maya got her very own Wing-a-ma-Jig, which she is enjoying immensely. Each seems pleased to have his/her own toys and have begun establishing personal connections to them.
Maya is an excellent bubble blower. She seems to be in the early stages of teething now, too.
Maya is still traveling on her back a lot. Tristan is very interested in mobility but is still working out the details. He does Pilates Bow a lot; thus, has a baby 6-pack.
Maya’s eyes are turning a deep blue green. Tristan’s are still a bright blue.
The exersaucers get a regular workout now. Play mats are so last month.
Everyone had fun at a surprise early birthday festivity that Dad planned for Mom.

During which the exersaucers are introduced.
Tristan and Maya spent some time laughing with each other and talking. They are becoming buds.
Maya has been going places on her back again. She got lost under the coffee table. Mom found her but not until after Zu Zu had left her with a pair of fur mittens and boots. Tristan is slowly but surely starting to crawl. Mom and Dad are contemplating furniture barricades.
Everyone is enjoying picking things up and putting them in their mouths. The Twinkies had their first solid food. Maya quite liked the rice cereal, though she grew tired of all that spoon business. It frightened Tristan a bit and was definitely too slow for his appetite. Both enjoyed squishing food in their hands.
The Twinkies went to their first birthday party. Killian turned five and invited everyone to the petting farm! It was mad hot and the little ones were ready to head back to the homestead after about an hour, but not before Maya got a foot massage from Susan and Tristan smiled at Frank. Maya also had a lock on Paul.
All on the same day they celebrated their first [external] Summer Solstice, turned four months old, and best of all, helped Dad have a great first Father’s Day! They got him all sorts of fun gifts and snacks, then headed to visit Nana and Papa.
Considering everyone spent the weekend on the run and ended up on the wrong page, Dad and Mom decided that no trips are in the immediate future.
Maya decided to take this week off. She’s not been very mobile. Instead she’s chosen to spend time chattering, picking things up, and playing in the exersaucer. She traveled some at the end of the week, though, puttering around.
Tristan has been teething and it leaves him quite tired. He’s not been interested in nursing. Instead, he’s chosen to stay on his tummy a lot and worry that he’s not sure how to crawl. He enjoys the exersaucer, too.
Both have become very aware of the other getting attention.
Four baby birds (of dubious species) hatched on top of a column on our front porch. This has been the focus of many pre-naptime walkabouts.
Dad brought home new toys that he was very excited about and hoped the Twinkies would be, too. Since they enjoy the exersaucer so much and are not as interested in baby toys anymore, the plan was to add another exersaucer into the circuit. Dad went to Kid to Kid and got a new-to-them Leap Frog Learn & Groove Activity Station, a keyboard, and some other Leap Frog musical thingie. The Twinkies enjoy the toys very much, though some features will have to be explored later, with more refined skills. If Mom could fit into the Learn & Groove station thingie she would play with it. Dad’s not allowed to baby shop alone anymore.
Dad bought Tristan his very own teething Wing-a-ma-jig.
Maya wore her first pair of shoes this week. She was very unsure about them, as she’s very tactile and doesn’t like anything on her hands and feet (like Mom). Tristan looked at them horrified, as if wondering, “What happened to your feet?”, afraid that it was contagious and could happen to his feet, too. Mom laughed into her hand.
The Twinkies met Susan and Frank, and had a great time!
Tristan blew his first raspberry. Dad and Mom were so proud!
They each got a new stuffed creature from M.A. Ellen but aren’t quite sure how to enjoy them yet.
Maya still travels well on her back. She’s become very interested in the objects on the play mat and reaches for them with both hands. Tristan is very intent on rolling over as many times as possible. He prefers to end on his tummy and holds his head up well. He gets very frustrated that he can’t do what comes next, though he isn’t sure what actually comes next. He knows something does, though.
The Twinkies saw their first film in a theatre–Star Trek. It went well, although Mom and Dad felt like they had been wrestling octopi after. They also went to their first street fair, where they saw BMX riders, face painting, a live band, and wore powdered sugar all the way home.
Maya and Tristan each made the bridge of their nose this week. They are no longer flat little baby noses. Now they can get from their foreheads to their top lips.
Tristan began intentionally batting at the objects hanging above the play mat. He’s also begun fine manipulation of his fingers and reaching out to feel things, like clothing and hair (not his). Maya swings at the play mat toys like they are baseballs. Any lack of motivation Tristan had for mobility prior to has been made up for this week. He began traveling on his back and rolling every way possible. Though he doesn’t have the distance that Maya does on her back he goes in some fantastic circles. His drive seems to have kicked in and all he wants to do is gogogo. Maya has been goinggoinggoing, and still is.
Everyone is in Stage 2 diapers. More surface area, more…
The Twinkies afternoon at the park consisted of them asking when we were going home.
Maya is chattering most of her waking hours, now. Tristan laughs out loud.
The Twinkies went to their first Thai/Indian restaurant this week. They mostly slept through it.
They went to their first away game day at Kerry and Gabe and Maddie’s house.
Twinkies have slept 7-8 hours after their last feeding of the day every night this week. They are waking pretty early, though.
Maya is enjoying practicing sitting up on her own. Tristan is enjoying watching her. He is still working hard to push up from his tummy and support his head, which he does very well when he’s picked up.
Mom went back to work. Where she worked then came home to be Twinkie Keeper. Dad became the day-home parent (he’s home during the day and works at night) and has enjoyed busy days with busier Twinkies.
Maya signed ‘Mom’, the second sign she’s done. She and Tristan both recognize several signs. Tristan signs, “eat” when he feels like it.
Tristan thoroughly enjoys the rainforest bouncy seat and the safari one. He likes the rainforest one better, though (multimedia). Maya figured out how to work the rainforest chair this week.
Both make new sounds everyday and wake up smiling. Tristan shrieks and Maya squeaks (like a dog’s squeaky toy).
Both enjoy their thumbs a great deal and suck on them as often as possible.
Everyone is enjoying the Twinkies sleeping in their nursery. Once, they even slept for seven hours after their last feeding of the day. The first night they spent in separate cribs the Twinkies slept for eight hours. They have slept 7-8 hours each night since. Mom and Dad wish they got to sleep that long, still. Each enjoys having personal crib aquariums.
Everyone went out for Thai/Indian food this week. Maya slept through it but Tristan enjoyed it. Both slept through a trip to Daniel’s.
The Twinkies and Dad began the week by giving Mom lovely presents for Mother’s Day and taking her for dim sum.
Maya and Tristan have been taking long ganders in the singing mirror when they push up from the floor. Maya has done really well holding her head up for a while, but Tristan seems to have finally become devoted to doing so this week. Maya has shown that she has no need for crawling as she now travels great distances on her back… which would explain why she has a bald spot on the back of her head. She scooted off the play mat around the corner of the sofa to rest a bit under the window–a little over two feet!
Mom started seeing clients again this week.
Tristan is quite taken with television, though Dad and Mom aren’t crazy about that fact. He is particularly partial to Meerkat Manner and Paula’s Home Cooking.
Mid-week the Twinkies moved into their own room. Mom and Dad made pouty faces but the transition has gone smoothly for everyone. They now enjoy a luxurious turtle starlit night sky as they fall asleep.
The feeding schedule continued to slide early in the week but all was back on track by week’s end, going six and a half hours after one of their last feedings for the day.
Maya played Dominion at her first game day. Tristan has begun signing when he’s hungry, in addition to screaming.
In which they continue to grow and learn and express!
